Our mission is to be a global force for liberation through literature. This is What Happens When Women Read drives that liberation by inspiring women worldwide on their journey to self-actualization through education and safe community.
Our why
We serve women worldwide who want to find deeper meaning beyond the boxes that oppressive systems have tried to put them in. They have a yearning to unlock what is powerful within themselves, and are looking for pathways to get there.
Our work and message is universal, built for any woman looking to find her own autonomy and liberation.

Our Anthem
The day we realize we can change ourselves is the day everything changes. We read to free ourselves. To unjudge. To unlearn. Instead of remaining static in certitude, we question. We read everything we can get our eyes, ears, and fingers on. We read to self-educate. To rethink, reclaim, and restore. No one can do this work for us. So we speak out. For unsuppressed knowledge. For breaking bread with our Pharisees. We make a meal of Plato. We pour a glass of Sappho. We press out our becoming and seek meaning in her lair. We read to awaken the liberation of women everywhere. This is what happens when women read.
